Taylor Laraia Places 2nd in New York State, NFA finshes 22nd in State

Taylor Laraia capped off his brilliant high school career finishing second at 130 lbs. at the New York State Wrestling Tournament held February 26th and 27th.  Taylor, the second seed, defeated Wesley Blanding of Section 3's Chittenango High School, 5-0 in the opening round, Jason Chudzinski of Section 2's Colonie High School, 5-0 in the quarter-finals, Casey Lanave of Section 4's Chenango Forks High School, 7-5 in the semi-finals, before falling to Section 11's Nick Meinsen, John Glenn High School, in the final, 6-0.  He finishes his career with the following school records: Most Wins (185), Most Pins (106), Most Matches-Career (217), Highest Single Season Winning Pct. (.962), Most Wins-Season (50), Most Matches-Season (52).

Marcus Spearman(189) went 1-2 defeating Brandon Keys of the PSAL's Thomas Edison by fall in 4:56, for his only win of the tournament.  Marcus finishes career 127-37 with 66 pins placing him 8th on the all-time win list in Newburgh Free Academy History.

John Carey(285) went 1-2 at the New York State Wrestling Tournament defeating PSAL's David Brown, Flushing High School, by fall in 1:36.  John finshes his Senior season 41-8 and career 78-40 with 45 pins.

The Newburgh Free Academy Wrestling team finished tied for 22nd place at the New York State Wrestling Tournament with state power Longwood of Section 11.  It was the Goldbacks' 3rd highest state team placing in its history, since team scores began being recorded in 2001.
